A Morning Cup of Tea: Matthew 5:1-6

Good morning! I hope you rested well. I think I rested a bit too well, because I'm running behind today. :)

Usually I cover two chapters or so at a time. However, chapter  5 begins the Sermon on the Mount, and there is so much that Jesus spoke about in it, I decided to slow down and take a bite or two at a time.  I read from a King James Version , simply because I grew up on it and am more comfortable with it.  I look forward to comments or questions. If I do not know the answer I will try my best to find the answer.

V3. Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs in the kingdom of heaven.
He is talking about humility there. We shouldn't be all puffed up about ourselves.

V4. Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted.
Penitence. Being imperfect people we mess up. We should be sorry for when we mess up and want to do better.
V5. Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.
Jesus was meek. Some in today's world think meekness means you have to be a throw rug if you are meek and therefore have low self esteem.  Not so! I think there is a quiet strength to someone who is truly meek.
V6. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst  after righteousness; for they shall be filled.
Spiritual hunger, like physical hunger, can diminish or flourish as we manage it. If we neglect to feed our bodies good, nutritious food, our bodies grow weaker and sometimes the desire for food goes away. Its the same with spiritual hunger. We should feed our spirits regularly with bible study and worship and prayer.

I'm going to stop right here for now so that we can digest this. J is also calling for attention. : ) I hope you have a wonderful day.
