Good morning! It's Friday, another work week is almost behind and the weekend is near.
Today's reading is Luke 21:5-38. Jesus is daily teaching in the temple, and staying on the mount of Olives at night. During this time someone mentioned the gifts and riches of the temple. Jesus foretold the destruction of the temple, and how Jerusalem would be overtaken. It of course would not be an easy time for the people, especially the disciples.
Although this chapter is mostly on the destruction of Jerusalem Jesus gives a warning to his listeners that applies to us as well: don't get caught up in the cares and the ways of the world. Verses 34-36 are warnings to be watchful and prayerful. We don't know when Jesus is coming again but we don't want to be caught unaware. This doesn't mean we cannot have fun in our lives, for God gave us much to enjoy. It's just that we shouldn't let the ways of the world overshadow us.

A Morning Cup of Tea : Signs of the End of Time...Or...
In chapter 24 of Matthew the disciples came to Jesus privately to ask about the end times. Jesus had just pointed to the temple and said it would be destroyed to the point that not one stone would be left standing on another (v2).
This chapter can be a little confusing because Jesus does speak of end times, but he also speaks of something that the disciples will see in their own time --the destruction of Jerusalem and the fall of the temple.
About the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple, Jesus told them they would see the signs for it. It was going to happen and it was going to be awful. But stay faithful till the end. But as for the end of time, there really isn't going to be a sign that He is coming.
Since the time of the destruction of Jerusalem there have been wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes and floods, and people claiming to be Christ. False prophets have been around for awhile. And life has gone on, good and bad.
Jesus tells us in verse 36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. That means not even Jesus himself knows when the end of the world is coming. Just as a thief in the night does not tell the house owner when he is coming, there isn't going to be a last minute chance to get one's life in order.
The time is now to choose whether we will live for God or not. Until the time of Jesus' coming, life will go on. There will be wars and rumors of wars. We will continue to have earthquakes, floods, and such. People will continue to live their lives good or bad. And their will be those who claim to be Christ and those who claim to be for Christ. Until the end of time or the end of our earthly life comes we should be continually studying God's Word, continually praying, continually working the fields, staying faithful to then end. Don't worry so much of signs. When it happens no one knows but it will happen.
