Morning Has Broken

Actually, morning broke about two hours or so ago --5 AM. I'm a morning person, but in my book, morning should ideally begin at 7 AM. At the earliest,  6:30. I could possibly stand 6 if I had to. In my world however, I have a son who has come to believe that anywhere between 2 AM and 5 AM is the optimum time to start the day. And the cats agree with him.

I wake up, deal with the morning ablutions and I am followed by the pitter patter of little feet. Feline feet carrying kittens and a young adult who wonder why their human would prefer they didn't follow her into that one particular room in the house. After all, it's din din time. She's up, so it must be din din time! They are on the brink of starvation after not having eaten for three years! Okay, so its only been since last night but hey, who cares. Food is of the utmost importance for a cat.

The two factions in the house, cat and child, tolerate each other at best and avoid each other completely at worst. I think that it's all a scam, that avoidance. Sometime around midnight or so I think they get together and plot. Their objective? Food. At the most unreasonable time of morning. The Bottomless Pit and the Feline Mafia work together to achieve this goal. Get her up by any means possible: Belching. Rattling around in the kitchen. Singing. A tail in the face. A furry weight on the chest. Incessant mewing.  And so the day begins. The two warring sides, sated, go back to their wary acknowledgement of the enemy and continue with their day.

Gratituesday: Mornings

I'm going to do something I don't normally do: I'm going to quote me. It's not that I think I'm such a great philosopher, or that I speak eloquently (I'm not and I don't), its just that I said something here that pretty much sums up what I'm grateful for this day.
Good morning! I am neither bright eyed nor bushy tailed but I am awake this morning, and happily so. I have my son demanding "EAT!!" and a furball demanding attention. In all, it's a typical morning here. Although I did not see the actual sunrise this morning, from my vantage point I watched it grow lighter and brighter outside, and saw the bus come to pick up the neighborhood kids. I enjoy life in the mornings.
I love mornings. I'm at my best in the mornings, provided I got enough sleep the night before. I haven't yet learned to choose to be happy in all circumstances, although I want to work on that. In truth, unless I get seven or eight hours of sleep (uninterrupted, please), I'm a grouch. Give me a few minutes to growl and rub the sleep out of my eyes, and read the bible and eat (Right about now on some tv shows you would see a counter pop up to count all the 'and's) AND (sorry, couldn't resist that one) I'm good to go.
I do enjoy mornings though. Maybe not as early as J does, with his four thirty or five AM baths where he sings and giggles. I'm more of a 6:30, sevenish morning person. I enjoy my routine of feeding cats, feeding my soul, getting breakfast ready for my family (or waiting for breakfast if The Hubby is cooking). I like seeing the world around me wake up a bit. If something needs to be done here at the house, morning is the best time for me. After two o'clock in the afternoon my get up and go has generally got up and went without me.
What about you? When is your favorite time of day? Is it when you're most productive, or when things are quiet? Let me know. Have a great day!

Gratituesday: Morning Routines

Are you a morning person? I am. I like being awake by seven or seven thirty to start the day. I've tried being up earlier than that, but I wilt too early in the day when that happens. I think I've always been an early riser, even as a child. I remember waking up, especially on Saturdays, to watch my favorite shows and to see if there by chance would be leftover cold pizza to have for breakfast, hee hee.
These days my morning routines are different. If my husband is home he generally takes over breakfast for me so I can do my writing. On days like today, when Jim is either at work, or stopping by his mom's after work, the routine is a little different. I wake up either on my own or when I hear J stirring. His routine is rather simple --wake up, take a bath, take meds and wait paitiently (and sometimes not so patiently) for breakfast. Once I'm up, I check on J and let him know breakfast will be coming soon, take my thyroid medicine, feed the cats (which includes a few strays), and then hand J some cheese or something to hold his strength while I'm doing my thing. Sometimes I will start some boiled eggs, other times I'll let J know that breakfast will be cooked in just a bit. That is when I come to my spot in the living room and do my bible reading and blog time. Afterwards is when I get going on the day. I love quiet, easy mornings.
Each Tuesday Laura at Heavenly Homemakers  invites us link up with her and tell what we are grateful for. This post is linked up. What are you grateful for today?  Please feel free to share. I love hearing from my readers. :)  Have a wonderful day.
